Matthew takes first place at Dublin meet
MATTHEW Martin from Banbridge, and a former pupil of Dromore High School, had success recently at the Irish Senior Athletics Competition at Santry, Dublin.
Competing as a junior athlete, aged 18, he was up against the Irish Seniors in the Javelin throw. Matthew threw consistently over the 60 metre mark and secured first place with a throw of 61.38m. In second place was Aaron Crawford (Senior athlete from Strabane) with a throw of 56m.
Matthew is supported by SINI (Sports Institute Northern Ireland) through specialised Strength and Conditioning Training at Lisburn PDC with his dedicated lifting coach, Giovanni Capello.
His javelin coach is David Parker of Sightline Performance, based over in England. Matthew has been training with Team Sightline for the last ten months and has seen great improvements in all aspects of his throwing.
With aspirations for the international scene, Matthew hopes to move over to Loughborough at the end of this season in order to further improve his performance.
