Locals beat Moyola Park in Ulster Fourball
THE Banbridge Ulster Fourball team, captained by Merton McDowell, played Moyola Park in round two.
The first leg was at Banbridge and Merton was hoping for a big win. His team responded magnificently.
Philip Strong and Darren Barker won 8 and 7.
John Poots and Kieran Meade won 2 and 1.
Billy Clarke and Robert Clydesdale won 3 and 1.
Gerry Blevins and will Dickson won 2 and 1.
Robert Haire and Sean McGreevey got a half match.
The score, after the first leg, was Banbridge four and a half, Moyola Park a half.
The second leg was played last Sunday away at Moyola Park in Castledawson. Banbridge needed to win one of the five games for victory. That proved far easier than expected.
Will Dickson and Gerry Blevins were inspired and they won their match by 7 and 6.
That was it all over and the other games were called in. They were all well into the second nine.
John Poots and Jack Bickerstaff were 2 down.
Billy Clarke and Robert Haire were 3 up.
Darren Barker and Philip Strong were 4 up.
Sean and Colm McGreevey were 2 down.
It was a brilliant team effort. Banbridge will now play either Carrickfergus or Killymoon in round three.
So far, so good.
