Cycling success

LAST week featured the Under Age winners at the above event but Banbridge CC success did not stop there. Our Junior and Senior riders were also prominent in this showcase of talent in Ulster cycling circles.

Matt Adair was first in the Ulster Junior cross country series and gold medallist in the cross country championships and demonstrated his all- round off road ability with a second place in the Ulster Cyclo-cross championships.

Gareth McKee capped a great season taking gold in the Ulster Elite Men’s Cross Country Championship, while also winning the Ulster and Irish Series Cross Country Series at Senior 1 level – a phenomenal achievement by Gareth.

The evergreen William Mulligan was runner up to Gareth in the Ulster Cross Country Series confirming that exquisite skill and nerves of steel puts him up amongst the best.

Simon Curry who devotes a lot of his time developing our younger riders shared the limelight on the night first place in both the Ulster and Irish Cross Country Series Senior 2 level.

Roger Aiken completed a dominant night for the clubs off road men with gold in the Ulster Mens Cyclocross championship and winner of the Ulster Cyclocross Series.

All in all here was proof of Banbridge CC ‘s strength in off road cycling – and it was pleasing to see that recognised so forcefully on the night.

Two further riders featured in the awards: Chris Burns won the Dave Kane Voucher for Paracyclists (look out for a feature on Chris in the coming weeks) and Track World Championship bronze medallist Terry Mackin finished runner up in the Madigan Track League.

Banbridge Cycling Club members can be rightly proud of all the award winners.

Circuit Training - Just a reminder that Maurice Mayne’s circuit training continues at the Academy gym on Monday evenings at 7pm restarting on February 13. All welcome. I haven’t been attending but from what I here it’s a really good workout. Time to give it a try?
