Bigger trout making an appearance

THE milder weather recently is bringing alot of the bigger trout up at Islandderry Fishery, Dromore.

Newcastle angler Allan Strain had a good couple of hours on Saturday landing five trout which included a lovely full tailed and finned rainbow of 8lb4.

Allan started off fishing a orange blob and then changed to a bloodworm, both on a floating line with a bite indicator.

Gareth Strain, Waringstown landed a nice fish of 9lb8 and another of 6lb8 then gave his rod to his mate to hold who then hooked into a lovely trout of 5lb8!

Tom King and G Lyness, Lurgan had a good day on the main lake fishing damsels and cormants landing 19 trout between them while Peter Ferguson caught 9 trout from the boat and Newcastle angler Mark Murray landed eight from the boat on his usual buzzers.

The Hollow Springs lake was fishing well with Darrell Johnston landing 10 and lost five on a sinking line and orange fritz. The next competition is the fifth round of the winter league on 25th February with the final being held on 31 March.

Starting in April the fishery will be holding alot of open competitions with 2 big sponsered charity competitions for both bait and fly fishing - Teggart Memorial Competition for Cystic Fybrosis and the Islandderry Trout Anglers with be holding a competition in May with proceeds going to N.I. Cancer Fund for Children.

The first of the Fishery’s events will be the Easter Monday senior fly fishing competition with the U16 junior competition on the Easter Tuesday. All welcome.
