West Down Wheelers hosted their Quarry Circuit road race on Tuesday night.
This is an annual short circuit format race for club members only, but with work commitments and poor weather conditions numbers were low with only 13 riders racing on the night.
The field was handicapped into three groups separated by four and a half minutes, racing eight laps of the tough three mile course.
Jonny Cromie and Simon Keery were off first with three minutes over group two. Keery worked hard from the off and held on to a gap of over two minutes until lap four.
Elsewhere the scratch group of Paul Wilkinson and Mark Alexander had caught the main group containing on form riders Brian Hanna, John Kernaghan and Neil Seffen, leaving an 11 strong group working very well and bringing the field together in a short time.
The pace was fast and a few riders dropped off the back on the final couple of laps as the Drumneath Hill took its toll. It was Wilkinson who narrowly took the win infront of Kernaghan, with placings being made up by B Hanna, N Seffen, M Shilliday and M Alexander.
The club would like to thank the members of TVR, Banbridge CC and Dromara CC who came to marshal and tend corners for the Wheelers.
