Wheelers compete on tough course

LAST Tuesday night West Down Wheelers held a 10 mile TT on the tough Rathfriland Road course.

On what was a cold windy night 23 turned up to face the time keeper. Fifteen of these were West Down Wheelers.

It was no surprise when Paul Wilkinson clocked a 23.28 which was a superb effort on the night and showing once again hes the man to beat.

In second place was Paul McManus his time of 24.09 - this was some ride to as he is getting back to the times we al know he is capeable of doing.

Third was the ever improving young Dan Gordan with a 24.35 while fourth was a man better known for his road racing, John Kernaghan his time was 25.04; he is climbing up the leaderboard.

Some riders who deserve a mention are P McKinstry. His time of 26.14 was a big improvement. New rider A McCourt, who got under the half hour did well plus schoolboys S Cantly, S Dunlop plus D Cantly (F) who all had a go on a night when some men sat in the house so well done to them.

This has been a good start to the year for the Wheelers with 24 having turnd out in the opening three TTs and still some to make there mark its going to be an interesting season ahead.

The club also has 10 men who have competed regurly in the open races with J Kernaghan, I Walker and his brother Alistair getting the required points to take them up into the A3s to join Mark and Dan, plus Paul who is an A2.

For years the club has only had one or two riding so having 10 is a big change and good for the club.

This week’s race is a tough one for sure - a circuit TT starting in Loughbrickland and finishing on the flyover in Banbridge.
