Nine members of local club Ballyvally archers will be shooting in the World Field Championships this week.

The championships, which were in Poland in 2015, have moved to the Wicklow mountains close to Bray.

The courses are in a large forest and will be quite steep - a good challenge to archers from all over the world.

Orla O’Connor, who shoots in the ladies barebow class, is just one of the nine Ballyvally archers who will be there.

Orla recently won the Ballyvally ladies indoor league in which 43 ladies shot. The Ballyvally committee and club would like to wish Orla and the other eight archers Robert Mallon, Mark Nesbitt, Jake Walsh, Dean Hamilton, Craig McCreery, Alan Convery, Gilbert McClelland and Aimee Convery all the best for a successful World Championships.

FIRST AUTUMN INDOOR and BEGINNER SESSIONS

Ballyvally will host their first Autumn indoor shoot in Banbridge Leisure Centre next Sunday (October 2).

The shoot is for Ballyvally members only as they will fill all the shooting places. The youngest archer already entered is only four years old and is part of Ballyvally’s policy of encouraging the younger archers.

Meanwhile, the nine weekly club sessions continue in Banbridge Leisure centre. There are five sessions in the afternoon, three sessions at night and one outdoor session on Tuesday afternoons.

Beginners are always welcome at any of the sessions, which are for all ages.

Contact Frank Mulligan, Club Chairman on 028 406 23748 for further details of times and cost.
