Banbridge High School girl Olivia Mehaffey has been knocked out of the Irish Ladies Close Championship in the semi-final.

She was beaten five and three by her friend and Holywood Golf Club member Jessica Carty, who is in fine form and looks set to play Mary Doyle in the final.

Having finished tied 14th after two qualifying rounds at Enniscrone, Olivia saw off Sarah Cunningham one up in the last 32 before beating Co Clare girl Sinead Sexton two and one in the last 16.

She carried that form into Monday evening and beat local Enniscrone girl Sarah Helly two and one to set up the semi-final tie with Jessica Carty.

Carty was fresh off the back of a stunning seven and five quarter-final win and got off to a flyer against Olivia, two up after two.

It has still been a great week for Olivia though. Find out why in this week’s Leader.
