Next Saturday is President’s Day at Banbridge Golf Club and everyone hopes that John Parkes has a wonderful day.
The highlight of the day will be the final of the President’s Prize, a fourball matchplay tournament, which started away back in the month of May.
The quarterfinals have all been played with the following results:
Kevin McKay and Brian Grimes beat Tom Fee and Sydney Pepper 1 up.
Tom Gillespie and Shane Rooney beat Jeffrey Brown and Seamus McNally 3 and 2.
Andrew Quinn and Barry Casey beat Joe Glass and Joe Thompson 3 and 2.
Ken Stevenson and Jim Mallon beat Morris Phillips and Nigel Bryson 3 and 2.
The two semi-finals will be played this week and they should be very interesting.
Kevin McKay and Brian Grimes won last year but their handicaps have come down considerably since then. They will find Tom Gillespie and Shane Rooney a tough nut to crack.
Andrew Quinn and Barry Casey are full of confidence but they will need more than confidence to get the better of Ken Stevenson and Jim Mallon.
Who will line up in the final? I wouldn’t dare predict.
