Last Friday was a momentous day at Banbridge Golf Club, when the Woody and Spla Golf Day took place at the club.
There was also confirmation that the second hole at the club will be renamed “Bramall Woods” in memory of the pair.
A number of friends of the late Trevor Woods and Laurence Bramall wished to create a lasting memory of the two young men who passed away just a year ago. The idea of a golf day that would involve their families and many friends was agreed.
Over 50 teams took part in what turned out to be a most memorable occasion for all involved. Club professional Jason Greenaway led his team to victory by two points with a stunning score of 103.
The full list of prizewinners was as follows:
Winners: Jason Greenaway, Hugo Downey, Neville Reid, Gordy Haire. 103 points.
Runners-up: Aidan and Dean Nicoletti, Peter weir, Jonathan Kerr. 101 points.
Third: Jonathan Ward, Connor Doran, Shane Burns, Peter Hillen. 101 points.
Fourth: Andrew Quinn, Barry Casey, Brian Knox, Carson Clegg. 101 points.
Fifth: Neil and Robert Clydesdale, Billy Clarke, John Doran. 99 points.
Sixth: Kris, Richard and Jamie Fletcher, Barry Rooney. 99 points.
Ladies: Bea Boyce, Robena McCandless, Lorna McKinstrey, Liz Ramsey. 79 points.
Closest to the hole (15th): Connor Mulholland.
From the money raised, a sizeable cheque was presented to Jo-Anne Dobson on behalf of the Northern Ireland Kidney Patients Association and another one to Liz Armstrong on behalf of the Southern Area Hospice.
The remainder of the money will go towards the redevelopment of the second hole, which will be renamed in the duo’s memory.
The organisers would like to thank all the sponsors, in particular the headline sponsor, Northern Ireland Electricity.
They are also grateful to those who provided auction items, the participating teams and the large band of helpers who ensured that the day ran smoothly.
It was certainly an emotional day but still most enjoyable. Laurence and Trevor will never be forgotten, that’s for sure.
