Helen beats Anne on countback

THE past two weeks have been busy for the local lady golfers.

The competition of Tuesday July 10 was very kindly sponsored by Liz Armstrong and Helen Smyth.

Conditions have been very difficult lately with the ‘rough’ causing lots of problems, however overall winner up and coming Juvenile member Helen Sawyers was not phased with a tremendous score of nett 70 - terrific scoring when other ladies struggled. Helen beat Anne Cromie on countback.

Other winners on the 10 July were: Section A - Carole Quinn; Section B - Anne Cromie; Section C - Denise Russell; Pink Ladies - Meretta Donaghy.

Helen Smyth was the only lady to have a two which she scored at the 12th hole.

Golfer of the Year Points (10 July) - 6 Helen Sawyers; 5 Anne Cromie; 4 Lorna McKinstry; 3 Patricia Smith; 2 Carole Quinn; 1 Liz Ramsey.
On July 17 40 ladies played in the PGA Tankard, the winner of which goes forward to play with the Club Pro and men’s representative later in the season.

The privilege this year goes to Wendy Todd who scored a fantastic 40 points. Mary Longmore won Section A, Lorna McKinstry section B and Vivian Faulker Section C. Pat McCartan was the Pink Lady winner.

Once again only one lady managed a two, this time it was Valerie Malcolmson

Golfer of the Year points July 17 were: 6 Wendy Todd; 5 Lorna McKinstry; 4 Mary Longmore; 3 Valerie Malcolmson; 2 Mildred Hodgett; 1 Una McSherry

Team News: The Miele team after a somewhat late night and nail-biting adventure played on Tuesday July 10 are through to the Ulster semi-final of the Miele Fourball competition, having defeated Rockmount.

In an unusual format, the match is played in both venues at the same time, half the team play at home the other half away. After four very tight and competitive matches, the teams could not be split meaning the first pairing in Banbridge had to embark at 9.45pm on tie holes.

With light fast fading no time could be lost and we are happy to report that the Banbridge ladies won the match overall on the second tie hole. Congratulations to all the team - they now play Clandeboye in the semi final.

Next Saturday July 28 is Lady Captain’s Day and all the lady members of Banbridge Golf Club extend their very best wishes to Lady Captain Mary for a very successful week and look forward to joining her on her day.
