Heavy rain prevents play but Vaughan wins Saturday Sweep with 35 point score

Vaughan Lamont was the big winner at Banbridge Golf Club during a week that was almost a wash-out.

This week was virtually a washout as far as golf was concerned.

Heavy rain meant that there was no sweep on Sunday, Monday or Thursday. Round three of the Winter League was declared null and void because not enough cards were marked.

The only competition to survive was last Saturday’s 14 holes sweep and it too was questionable for a long time.

Vaughan Lamont (14) went round in only 4 over par gross and won with a score of 35 points. A few weeks ago, Vaughan was describing his golf game as dire and he was seriously thinking of taking up indoor bowls. But, all of a sudden, his touch has returned and this is his second successive 35 points score. He won the senior prize two weeks ago and now he has captured the top spot.

Robin Jardine (23) was runner-up, also with 35 points.

Noel Cruikshanks (15) was third with 34 points.

Joe Glass (13) finished in fourth place with 32 points.

Rory Madeley (5) collected the fifth and final prize with 32 points.

Philip Strong and Cameron Morton also had 32 points but they both lost out on countback.

Let’s hope the weather improves this week and we get back to regular golf.
