On Thursday October 31st and Friday November 1st 2013, Banbridge Angling Club organised an End of Season competition and Fun day on Corbet Lough, and an Introduction to fly tying evening held at our Clubrooms in Havelock Park Banbridge for juveniles. This initiative came about upon the back of the Juvenile Open Day, which took place back in August this year and was a great success.
Format of the End of Season Competition and Fun day, was a four hour competition, under the instruction of club members, this also included a casting competition which the kids had great ‘Craic’ taking part in. After the fishing was completed, William Cochrane Asst. Honorary Secretary Banbridge Angling Club awarded each young person a certificate and three children received a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies. All children had lots of sweets, toffee apples and other Halloween treats to finish of the day, indeed a great day was had by all.
Format to Introduction to Fly Tying evening was a two-hour programme, whereby the children who attended were introduced to the basics of tying their own fishing flies. On the night the children were taught how to tie a ‘Hares Ear’ under the coaching of William Cochrane and Keith Cole, the young people were attentive to their instructors and completed tying their flies, well done to the the juveniles taking part.
A big thank you needs to be given to all the Banbridge Angling Club members who give up their time to undertake this initiative with the young people. Keith Cole, Colin Crothers, Malachy McAleenan and Martin Dynes, along with all other members who helped over the two events. Furthermore, these events could not have taken place without the full support and backing of Banbridge Angling Club main committee. Most importantly, a big thank you to all the young people who took part in the events, they made the two events very special to us all.
