Last Tuesday night, the members of West Down Wheelers held a 10 mile TT on the Castlewellan Road.
The conditions on the night were cold with a strong wind to the turn. As many as 14 riders turned up to take part with five of them guests.
The winner on the night was no surprise as the in-form Paul Wilkinson picked up yet another trophy, posting a winning time of 22.56. It was some effort and his performance again showed once again that he will dominate the club’s TTs once again in 2014.
In second is a rider who has kept quiet but crept up the leaderboard again. It was J Clyde as his 24.29 was a very respectable time and he’s very capable of a 23 on this course.
In third was M.Alexander with a very respectable time of 24.44. Mark is another rider who, on a better night, has the potential to do a 23 minute ride.
Once again, two riders who deserve credit are Dee Cantly and Geoff Tate. Dee was the only woman rider to do the TT on a night that wasn’t very good and Geoff put in a much improved display, knocking over three minutes off his last time on this course.
Two guests who deserve credit are TVR’s R Stewart and D McKnight. Rodney was just one second behind the winner while Davy’s 23 was a top class effort.
Once again the times have been very respectable and it was also good to see one of the Wheelers’ top riders turn up to watch after his big spill earlier on in the year in Darren Lynas.
Darren hopes to be back on the bike in the next week or two so that will be a big plus for the club. Also, Ally McCourt’s bandage comes of this week and K Wells is getting good treatment on his ham-string, so they should all be back racing soon.
This week’s race is a 10 on the Rathfriland Rd then the Road Races and Aussie Pursuits start.
West Down Wheelers are promoting the Katesbridge GP on the 24 May so a meeting will take place in the next week or two. Anyone wishing to join are asked to come along so keep an eye on the club’s facebook page.
All Wheelers who are looking a TT can get one as TVR run one every Thursday night. All wheelers are asked to support TVR or Dromara on the Thursday nights.
On Friday, the Wheelers are off to the Hugo Loughan race hosted by Island Wheelers so good luck to Matt, Clive, Andy, Wilkie, and Clydie.
