Disappointment as John’s President’s Day is rained off due to an
unplayable course

Last Saturday was meant to be John Parkes’ President’s Day but it didn’t happen.

Very heavy rain during Friday night and Saturday morning caused the course to be unplayable and all the competitions were postponed.

The highlight would have been the final of the President’s Prize, the fourball matchplay championship.

Tommy Gillespie and Shane Rooney were all set to play against Andrew Quinn and Barry Casey.

The two semi-finals were played earlier in the week.

Tommy and Shane beat the 2012 champions, Kevin McKay and Brian Grimes, by 2 up.

Andrew and Barry were in scintillating form against Kenny Stevenson and Jim Mallon.

They had a better-ball score of 30 for the first nine holes and they were 6 up.

They calmed down a little on the second nine but still won by 3 and 1.

The final, along with the men’s competition, looks like they will be played on Saturday 28th September.

Watch the noticeboard for confirmation.

The President presented the prizes for the ladies and the juveniles at a function on Saturday night.

The lady winners were Anne Blevins, Fionualla Crossey, Una McSherry and Maeve Fee.

The juvenile winners were Patrick McNiff and Jonathan Brush.
