Clann na Derg earn a draw the hard way

CLANN na Derg didn’t make it easy for themselves to carve out a draw against Saval last Sunday.

They looked the stronger side at the outset with some good plays moving the ball around the field. However they were unable to finish well with nine wides in the first half.

Three points from Eoin Scullion and a well taken free from Sean Casey gave some credibility to the score line but Saval made better use of their chances with a goal and five points.

With some changes to their formation in the second half, Clann na Derg had a better run of conversions with three points from Celem Meara and one apiece from Eoin Scullion, Paddy McGrath and Sean Casey.

Saval had little response with only a point in return. A second point in the half from Saval just before the final whistle secured a draw.

The missed opportunities in the forward line for Clann na Derg were balanced by a solid defence with consistent play from Fearghal Vaughan, Ryan Donnelly and, man of the match, Jordon Campbell.

Clann na Derg: Jack Moore, Eoin Scullion, Jordan Campbell, Ryan Donnelly, Fearghal Vaughan, Paddy McGrath, James Neill, Sean Casey, Odhran McMullan, Keelan Quigley, Rory Masterson, Callum Mc Conville, Celem Meara, Paul Ferris.
