Round 18 of Dromara Cycling Club’s summer club league took place on Thursday past.

Twenty-three cyclists gathered on the Dundrum road in Dromara to complete a 10 mile time trial on the course; amongst the cyclists being one guest from England visiting family members who are also members of the club.

The weather on the night was dry with a strong headwind on the way out to the turn at Guinnes Primary School before enjoying the tail wind on the homeward leg of the course.

Riders got underway just after 7pm the timekeepers set each individual off at one minute intervals, which changed to 30 second intervals on down the starting order.

After all the riders had finished, the times where finalised and it was Chris Magowan who was fastest on the night with a time of 23 minutes and 50 seconds.

This also meant that Chris set the record fastest time on the Dundrum line course which hasn’t been broken for a couple of years until now.

Second on the night and 16 seconds slower was brother Gavin in a time of 24:06.

Anthony Quinn posted a quick time of 24:42 as he didn’t have the same aero bikes and kit as Chris and Gavin.

Many thanks to the time keepers and marshals.

The next round of the club league is this Thursday night, a 16 mile time trial on the Hillsborough-Ballynahinch course. Sign on from 6:30pm at Governor’s Gate in Hillsborough. Please see the club message board for more details.

Well done to all the club members who took part in the fourth round of the Ulster XC sries at Kilbroney Forest Park.
