The deciding leg of the 2014 Friendship Cup was fished between Banbridge Angling Club and Armagh Angling Club at Corbet Lough Banbridge on Saturday September 6.

Banbridge had it all to do as they trailed the Armagh anglers by half a kilo from the first leg of the competition. The format of the day was the same as the first leg, splitting the angling into two sessions, three hours on shore and three hours boat fishing.

Throughout the day, there was excellent fishing to be had, high quality rainbow and brown trout from both bank and boat, with members of both teams recording excellent catches, Trevor Jones (Banbridge) recorded a bag of Fish weighing 2.646 kilos, including a beautiful Brown trout weighing over 3lb.

At 5pm, the whistle sounded and anglers made their way to the weigh in. From rough estimates, the competition looked far too close to call. The weigh in commenced and bags of fantastic fish were brought to the scales. Many fish were over 2lb and 3lb some exceeded 4lbs in weight. The weigh in finished with Armagh totalling a bag of 7.456 kilos to Banbridge’s 12.340 kilos giving Armagh a total weight for the two legs of the competition equalling 31.012 kilos compared to Banbridge’s total over the two legs of 35.328 kilos. Adain Donnelly Armagh Angling Club Chairman and team captain after verification with Martin Dynes Banbridge Angling Club Competition Secretary and team captain, declared Banbridge winners of the 2014 Friendship Cup by 4.316 kilos.

A barbeque followed with cooking by Geoff Hylands, Brendan Downey, Damien Murtagh and Rodger Armstrong. A big thank you to them for providing everyone with such great food and refreshments. All attending this had great craic and banter.

Armagh Angling Club’s Chairman Aidan Donnelly made presentation of the Friendship Cup to Banbridge Angling Club’s Competition Secretary and team Captain Martin Dynes.

Martin would like to pay special thanks to Aidan Donnelly, in conjunction with Armagh and Banbridge Angling Club committees, for their continued hard work in the development of this competition. He also thanked the Armagh competitors for making the day special. Martin would also like to thank his teammates who fished on the day.
