With the beginning of the 100-bird DTL circuit only a matter of weeks away, shooters were presented with the perfect opportunity for practise, with the recent 20-bird event held at Rathfriland, on Saturday, 14 September.
The 11.30am start to proceedings made for a decent turnout, with a total of eighteen lines shot throughout the day.
Excellent conditions on the day, partnered with blue skies and sunshine meant that targets were there to be hit, and this was reflected in the quality of shooting on the day.
Six shooters were able to hit the magic 20/60 score, with the first shoot-off comprising of Geoff Dale, Raymond Graham and Ballyvea’s Sandy McConnell.
From this line it was Geoff Dale who came out on top, managing a still-impressive 57 score.
The second shoot-off was a tighter affair. Norval Harrison, Alan Fowler and Gordon McDowell took part in a tense final which saw Fowler edge out the competition to hit another fantastic 20/60 score, taking the win along with the £50 high gun prize money.
Final places were as follows, 1st, Alan Fowler; 2nd , Gordon McDowell; 3rd, Geoff Dale.
All of those interested are reminded that a 20-Bird DTL event is to be held at Ballyvea Gun Club next Saturday, 21, September.
