MOMENTOUS DAY FOR GERS

SATURDAY will be a momentous day for Banbridge Rangers as they kick off against Lisanally Rangers in their opening Mid-Ulster Intermediate 'B' fixture at the new Cheney Park.

The club has worked hard to achieve Intermediate status but they are refusing to rest on their laurels.

"We had a five year plan which included fielding a second team and reaching Intermediate level but we have already achieved this," said club secretary Stuart Magill.

"But the plan is to keep on progressing and as we have a young team we are hoping we can really build a strong squad which will stay together for a number of years.

"I'm not going to say we will be a force in the league this year and it may be a case of finding our feet but I am convinced we will be able to hold our own.

"The team has put in a lot of work over the summer and we are very fit and ready to go."

Rangers have played three friendlies against superior opposition. Despite losing to Glenavon, Valley Rangers and Downshire Young Men boss Glenn Barr has been impressed with what he has seen from his players so far.

The local outfit's second game will be at Broomhedge the following week.
