Late penalty seals derby Cup win for Dromore

Banbridge U15s 15

Dromore U15s 18

Dromore sealed this first round Cup win and the bragging rights with a penalty kick just three minutes from time.

Dromore set the early pace, driving Banbridge back into their own 22. 12 minutes in, Dromore had the first points on the board with some great handling to send the full-back Cameron Shakesby over in the corner.

Much to Banbridge’s credit they came back into the game when missed tackles by Dromore led to a try out wide. Dromore’s backs, however, were enjoying themselves with Cameron Shakesby sprinting clear to score again out wide. Banbridge came back at Dromore with some big forward runners hurting the opponents and scoring just before the break to make it 10–10 at half-time.

Once again some slick passing and movement from Dromore’s backs created problems for the Bann defence, this time resulting in a nicely taken try in the corner from winger Ryan Fitzsimons. Banbridge bounced straight back at Dromore scoring from a No. 8 pick up at he back of the scrum to power over the line. With the scores tied, it made for an entertaining last 10 minutes.

Dromore won a penalty 22 metres out and Dinis stepped up to kick the three points giving Dromore the lead with just three minutes to go.

Both teams deserve a lot of credit for the effort the put in but Dromore fought well for the win. It was an excellent game of rugby to watch with end to end play, lots of big hits and hard running.
