Juniors faced an impossible task

THE Dromore Juniors’ mission to Newry on Saturday last was an impossible task as the surface was very heavy.

That made the game a lottery with Dromore getting one point thanks to a one shot win by the rink skipped by S Malcomson.

Rink 1: J Elliott, R Bolton, A Sudlow, I Houston.

Rink 2: E Walker, R Malcomson, G McDowell, T Sudlow.

Rink 3: T Ogle, R Elliott, H Maxwell, T Wilson.

Rink 4: J McCullough, J Black, T Gribben, S Malcomson.

Newry had made a good start to lead the juniors by 17 shots at five ends with Houston the only rink ahead by eight. Sudlow and Wilson had made a bad start with both rinks down by 11 and Malcomson was in the red by three.

In the next quarter the juniors had improved a little, cutting the margin down to 11. It was a bad quarter for Houston as he had failed to score and was now down by a single, Sudlow had got control of the jack and was now a single behind, Wilson’s arrears were 13 while Malcomson had got on a winning run to be ahead by four.

At three quarter stage 14 was the margin. Houston was still down by a single; Sudlow had lost control of the jack and was now down by six; Wilson had edged the quarter and was down by 12 but Malcomson was in front by five.

In the final six ends Newry ran out winners by 24. Malcomson was the only winner by a single, Sudlow had cut his deficit to three, Wilson was in arrears of 13 while Houston was defeated by nine.
