Hockey Club introducing Tricks 4 Sticks to schools

BANBRIDGE Hockey Club has this week launched the ‘Tricks 4 Sticks’ programme with four local schools in conjunction with Ulster Hockey, the Irish Hockey Association and Banbridge District Sports Association.

The ‘Tricks for Sticks’ (T4S) project, provides qualified hockey coaches to deliver one hour hockey sessions for six weeks, at local schools, free of charge.

Alison Wilson, Strategic Development Officer at Banbridge Hockey Club stated: “Banbridge Hockey Club is delighted to be delivering the Tricks 4 Sticks programme to local schools.

“T4S is the Irish Hockey Association’s flagship schools development programme and we hope that we can promote hockey to school children who have not had the opportunity to participate in the sport before.

“Four local schools are taking part in these sessions, Drumadonnell Primary, Moneyslane; Iveagh Primary, Rathfriland; Milltown Primary, Banbridge and New Bridge Intergrated College, Loughbrickland.

“Banbridge Hockey Club are providing some of our qualified coaches to deliver these sessions and we hope that many of the children who take part in these sessions will go on to develop their hockey skills at the Club.”

Alison added; “Banbridge Hockey Club Junior Section, the Banbridge Bears, provides excellent coaching and facilities for boys and girls playing hockey from Primary 1 upwards.

“This season we have over 300 boys and girls training with the club which is a fantastic position to be in and bodes well for the future of the club.

“The club recently achieved Clubmark NI accreditation. This means that BHC Junior Club will meet minimum standards in the areas of effective management, quality Coaching and competition safety in sport.”
