Hat-tricks all round as U9s see off talented Midway side

ON Saturday Rathfriland played a very talented Midway team in the Games Development Centre in Newry.

Rathfriland got off to a great start with Alex McKee scoring two early goals to give Rathfriland the lead. Johnny McGivern and Christopher McConville were showing great composure in Rathfriland’s defence as they started some great passing movements to keep the pressure on Midway’s defence.

Steven McElroy got his name on the score sheet with a sweet left footed shoot which hit the top corner of the Midway goal. Before the end of the first period Shane Haughey went on a great run and went past a couple of Midway defenders and passed the ball into the Midway goal.

Jack Maginn was in great form and pulled off a number of great saves in Rathfriland’s goal.

Rathfriland did manage to score one goal in the second period as the hard working Alex McKee went on a surging run down the right wing and hit an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner of the Midway goal to complete his hat-trick for the day.

In the third period Rathfriland made a number of positional changes and regained the upper hand as Adam Trimble scored two great goals from his right back position. Shane Haughey and Steven McElroy both went on to complete their hat-tricks as Rathfriland dominated the final period of the game.

This was another great performance from the Rathfriland U9 team as they remain unbeaten in the Games Development Centre.
