Golf club 100th anniversary marked with special dinner

Saturday night saw the climax of the anniversary celebrations with the Centenary Dinner.

And what a night! The clubhouse was packed. The special guests were Ivor McCandless, the President of the Golf Union of Ireland, and Bridget McCaw, the President of the Ladies Golf Union.

Both spoke very eloquently, congratulating Banbridge Golf Club on reaching its centenary. They had high praise for the club’s achievements over the years.

Banbridge Golf Club has produced several international players over its 100 years and won many trophies but the most endearing aspect of the club remains its friendliness and family atmosphere.

The club captain, Declan Dooher, held everyone’s attention as he outlined the foundation and development of the golf club.

It was most interesting. It just made everyone feel so proud to be a member of such a great club.

A lot of preparation had gone into the planning of the Centenary Dinner and, thankfully, everything went off just perfectly.

Here’s to the next 100 years!

With the club having an incredibly busy week due the centenary celebrations, a number of competitions were held every day, culminating in a very successful Celebration Centenary Dinner Dance on the evening of Saturday 8th June. The fabulous weather also played its part in the success of the celebrations.

On Tuesday the ladies played in their Centenary competition and the lucky winner was Sheelagh English. Section Winners were Diana Whan, Hilda Caughey and Ada Lavery.

Members are asked to keep an eye out on the notice boards regarding Lady Captain’s Day which is fast approaching.
