THE local lads recovered from as disappointing 2–0 defeat to Camlough Rovers in their opening match with a much better display against a strong Lisdrum team.
Rathfriland matched Lisdrum in all departments with Ben Johnston and Caolán Teer creating some good openings.
However it was the Newry team who took the lead just before half time with a well taken goal.
The second half saw Rathfriland equalise when Thomas Ingram found space inside the box to fire home. Scott Chambers almost nicked all three points for Rathfriland but is effort hit the side netting.
The local lads dominated this game from the outset with the midfield trio of Rhys McKee, Mark Bronte and Thomas Ingram causing the Valley defence all sorts of problems.
Scott Chambers was unlucky not to open the scoring on a number of occasions. The second half saw the introduction of Alan McKnight up front and within a minute of coming on he struck a left foot shot into the roof of the Valley net.
The last few minutes saw the Rathfriland defence of Paul Travers, Adam Cromie and Matthew Cromie come under pressure and they conceded an unfortunate equaliser with the last kick of the game.

- Rathfriland FC Youth U8s turned out for their second Saturday and won both games against Damolly and Moneyslane 5–1 and 6–1 respectively.
In the first game against Damolly Alex Mckee collected a hat trick with three great strikes while Shane Haughey and Adam Trimble got the other two.
In the second game against Moneyslane McKee scored another early on while Shane Haughey got another two great goals and Harry Annett also scored three for a brilliant hat trick.
There were great defensive performances in both games by Chris McConville, Drew McKnight, James Walsh, Rueben Toal and Ross Chambers.
Overall two great performances by the young lads who have got off to a great start and if they can keep up their training and workrate on the pitch they look to be capable of bigger and better things – well done lads.
