U12s held by Loughgall

BANBRIDGE Rangers Under 12s managed to beat the wave of postponements on Saturday by rearranging their away fixture with Loughgall to a lunchtime kick off at Cheney Park.

The match started brightly for the Gers with Thompson and Russell dictating much of the play in the centre of the park.

Loughgalls first foray forward on nine minutes forced a corner kick which beat a line of players and fell to the Loughgall winger who had the easiest of tap ins at the back pots. On the quarter hour mark Banbridge Rangers drew level with striker Josh Lyttle powering his way past the last defender and getting a shot off which was parried back to Lyttle who swept home into the open net.

The goal gave Rangers the confidence to drive forward with wingers Patterson and Crawford seeing more off the ball and supplying some telling crosses and through balls for Brown and Lyttle. On twenty five minutes the Gers took the lead through Kris Thompson who collected a header clearance from a corner and found the back of the net from the edge of the box.

On the cusp off half time Loughgall drew level with a hooked clearance from right back clearing the Rangers back line and the right winger curled around Hillis from the edge of the area. The second half was an even contest with Rangers having the better of the chances in the opening fifteen minutes but failed to hit the target on several occasions when well placed. Loughgall finished the half stronger and could have snatched a winner only for three outstanding saves from keeper Matthew Hillis who was Captain for the game and showed great leadership potential with his organisational skills and reading off the play.

This was one of the better performances from the Under 12s this season ahead off their NI Boys FA Cup against Limavady United this Saturday with kick off at 11.00am in Banbridge after the previous two attempts had been called off.
