U10s starting to show their skill at the Development Centre

Saturday past saw Rathfriland Swifts U10s line up against a very strong Valley Rangers team in the Games Development Centre in Newry.

Valley Rangers started the stronger and took an early lead, but it wasn’t long before Rathfriland drew level through a spectacular over head kick from Shane Haughey.

Rathfriland then started to play some good passing football with Steven McElroy and Alex McKee combining well down the left wing. Even with this dominance Rathfriland were unable to add to their goal tally in the first period as it finished all square.

In the second period Rathfriland continued to dominate play as Tiernan Smyth, Johnny McGivern and Christopher McConville bossed the Rathfriland back line.

Rathfriland’s passing game started to pay off as Oisin Logan scored a great individual effort after great play from Christopher McConville and Shane Haughey in the middle of the park.

Alex McKee and Shea Morgan then scored two long range efforts to give Rathfriland total control of the game.

In the third period Tiernan Smyth who was Captain for the day push up into Rathfriland’s midfield and got his name on the score sheet. Ronan Burns in the Rathfriland goals pulled off a couple of great saves to stop Valley Rangers getting back into the game. This was another great display from the Rathfriland U10’s as they continue to develop into a young skilful outfit.
