PRE-SEASON FRIENDLIES WELL UNDERWAY:

Rathfriland Rangers’ preseason campaign got under way last week with two games at Iveagh Park.

On Thursday night the Whites played up-and-coming side Orchard City and after a tight game it finshed 0-0 with both teams having a number of new signings on show.

Both keepers made saves from long distance with the back four in each team giving excellent displays.

Rathfriland’s Johnny Gibson and Chris McGrath were the pick of the Rangers’ team and new manager Iain McDowell was very happy with the team’s energetic performance.

On Saturday Rangers played new Irish League Premiership team Warrenpoint Town in another friendly, losing out 5-0 to a very good footballing team. Both sides had players unavailable but the Warrenpoint team showed exactly why they

have ascended through the ranks of junior and intermediate football in recent seasons. Two goals in the first period and three in the second made the score-line seem a bit flattering despite a plucky and determined display from thehome side.

MEMBERSHIP:

Could all players and officials be reminded that the membership for the 2013/14 season is now due. It is £30 for employed and £15 for unemployed/students.

ROBBIE KEOWN TO GIVE IT A GO!:

Robbie Keown is going to be taking the managerial reigns at the Colts, being assisted by John Ringland.

Well done to Robbie for stepping forward and a big thank-you to David Davenport on his years of service in the Colts hot seat.
