Slane see off Richhill side

MONEYSLANE’S first team hosted Richhill at Cheney Park last weekend in front of another large crowd who have been following the team.

They came out of the blocks with a high tempo and pushed Hill back into their own half, Anderson hit over the bar in the second minute from outside the box and Ervine hit wide.

Hill broke up field on the left and the cross found the centre forward in acres of space but his shot went inches wide of the up right.

Slane almost took the lead on the seventh minute when Mark Anderson whipped in a high looping shot that the keeper finger tipped onto the bar and out for a corner.

On the half hour the visitors could have taken the lead when the big defender was left unmarked from a corner but he headed well over when he should have done better.

With five minutes to the break Feeney picked out Anderson in the box and his goal bound effort was finger tipped around the post for a superb save, the resulting corner was delivered into the box and Lockhart unleashed a powerful shot but again the keeper was not to be beaten.

Two minutes into the second half Slane were in front, Ervine cleared the ball from centre of defence and Joel McConnell headed on to put Anderson through on goal and he coolly tucked the ball wide of the keeper and into the net for opening goal.

It was all Slane pushing for the second goal and Anderson again broke free from his marker inside the box but the keeper was quickly of his line to smoother the ball as he was about to shoot.

Feeney spread the ball wide to Anderson on the left and he whipped the cross deep into the box and Fairley struck with power but his shot hit the side netting.

On the hour Slane were rewarded a free kick when Feeney was up ended and Lockhart stepped forward and the ball rebounded of the wall to Fairley who swung the ball into the back post where Anderson headed back into the path of Thomas McCann who made no mistake and doubled the lead.

Nigel Fry was alert to pull off a great save when he finger tipped a power driver around the post but he could do nothing with an overhead kick with ten minutes to go that sailed into the roof of the net.

It was a tense last few minutes as the visitors pushed for the equaliser but Slane held on for the victory much the delight of the management staff and supporters.
