Slane Girls head to Armagh in Speers Cup

Moneyslane Ladies travelled to Armagh on Saturday to play in the Speers Cup 2013.

They girls played a total of four matches and performed brilliantly.

It was great to see new signings playing for the first time. All of the girls played with loads of enthusiasm and worked well as a team.

Moneyslane 7-0 Armagh: Sophie Megaw who found the back of the net four times, Victoria Rowan scored two goals in her debut for ‘Slane and the final goal came from Courtney Graham who was also playing her first match.

Moneyslane 4-2 Mid Ulster: A harder fought game from ‘Slane compared to the first match but we prevailed nonetheless. The girls were two up at half time with both goals coming from Sophie Megaw. Mid Ulster fought back in the second half with two good goals but ‘Slane were equal for them with Courtney Graham scoring twice.

Moneyslane 2-2 Lisburn Ladies: Lisburn Ladies scored two quick goals. Moneyslane fought back to make the scoreline 2-1 to Lisburn Ladies at half-time with a well deserved goal from Megan Davis. The second half was much stronger for ‘Slane with Erynn Kinley in goals motivating the team with some amazing saves. The equalising goal was scored by Victoria Rowan.

Moneyslane 1-2 Linfield: Slane knew from previous matches in the day just how strong a team Linfield were with them beating another team 13-0. This did not put the girls off and with great defence from Lynn Porter and Andrea Stevenson the score line remained low. Linfield scored first but it wasn’t long before Sophie Megaw equalised. Linfield clinched the victory with a late goal.

Moneyslane’s Player of the Day, awarded by Armagh Boys and Girls Club, was Courtney Graham.

All in all the girls were fantastic and the Moneyslane Ladies can only get stronger form here.

Team: Erynn Kinley, Lynn Porter, Andrea Stevenson, Megan Davis, Victoria Rowan, Sophie Megaw, Courtney Graham.
