Rathfriland U12s took on local rivals Valley Rangers at the 3G on Saturday in what turned out to be a hard fought battle with the home team playing neat passing football early on without creating any clear cut chances.
They were awarded a penalty for a hand ball just before the break which Thomas Ingram coolly side-footed into the bottom corner.
In the second half Valley equalised when a corner evaded the home defenders on the line and crept in at the near post.
It looked like a draw was on the cards when an Aaron Gribben corner on the right was headed powerfully in by Shane Close at the back post.
Rathfriland hung on for the win, but only just, as the Kilkeel lads created two great chances in the dying minutes.
