Rangers hit their Teggart as Stephen joins from Ports

Banbridge Rangers made their fourth signing of the summer at the weekend when promising local youngster Stephen Teggart signed from Portadown.

At 17 years old, Teggart has decided to make the move into senior football with his hometown club after quite a number of years on the road at youth level.

A captain of Linfield Youth teams and a member of each Northern Ireland squad up to Under 15 level showed very early in his young career that Teggart had a natural ability on the pitch.

The central midfielder then made the switch to St Oliver Plunketts under the mentoring of Jim Magilton and was enrolled in the Liverpool FC Academy.

A move to Glenavon and then onto Portadown followed and it was at Shamrock Park that Teggart was starting to establish himself in the Reserve Team.

The Banbridge lad has been training with Banbridge Rangers for all of pre-season and has impressed in his two friendly starts, even scoring during the 4-1 win over Bourneview Mill at the start of July.

Rangers Manager Richard McMinn was full of praise for the Newry Road teenager after securing his signing.

“I am delighted that Stevie has committed his future to Banbridge Rangers,” said the boss. “He has certainly impressed both myself, Geordie and his new team-mates with his attitude to training and in recent matches.

“I am also glad that Stephen has decided that Banbridge Rangers and Intermediate A is the place to start his senior footballing career as have many other teenagers in the past who are still part of the club to this day.”
