McGrath’s strike earns Village a point

AFC Craigavon 1

Seapatrick 1   SEAPATRICK left Craigavon feeling hard done by as they battled hard in this 1-1 draw.

The Village had three efforts on goal in the first 15 minutes. Adam Pedlow saw his free kick saved after only two minutes. Darren McGrath then sent over a pinpoint corner, Marty Buchanan got a clean header on the ball and the home keeper pulled off a great save.

Clifford Sands was then very unlucky as an Adam Kerr throw reached the front man in the box. He swivelled on the spot and his first time effort was palmed around the post as it looked destined for the top corner.

Craigavon had their first effort on goal after 20 minutes when Robert McCrory’s 20 yard effort was pushed over by keeper Bert Doherty.

As the half neared its end Seapatrick played a lovely passing move through the middle. Adam Kerr played a great ball to the feet of Aaron McAvoy who in turn found Paul Frazer. Frazer played in Adam Pedlow and as he beat his marker fired narrowly over.

It was, however, Craigavon who started the second half the brightest. A diagonal ball was met at the back post by the Craigavon number seven but he screwed his effort wide. He made up for his miss a short time later when his back post ball was headed down and Decky Carville tapped home.

Joel Annett then saved Seapatrick from going two down when he slid in to clear off the line.

Seapatrick pushed hard for an equalizer and Adam Pedlow was twice unlucky he saw an effort fly over the bar and then had a lovely curled effort just go narrowly wide.

Seapatrick’s equalizer came from the move of the game. Adam Pedlow played a neat one two with Aaron McAvoy, he threaded the ball through to Darren McGrath and as he raced into the box fired a low effort into the bottom corner.

Seapatrick pushed for a winner and as McGrath weaved his way into the Craigavon box he was sandwiched by two Craigavon defenders only for the referee to wave play on and blow for full time a few seconds later.

Seapatrick’s performance was full of belief and character and in fairness they were unlucky not to come away with all three points.
