Midfielder Johnny Kernaghan has made the move across the divide between two of the area’s greatest rivals.

He has now signed for Moneyslane at Jubilee Park, leaving their near neighbours Rathfriland.

The former Banbridge Town man brings considerable experience of Championship football to Moneyslane after also playing for Lisburn Distillery and Loughgall.

Johnny also honed his ability with a lengthy spell at Linfield as a teenager. His signing is no doubt seen as a massive coup for Moneyslane, particularly coming from their local rivals.

“We are delighted to welcome Johnny to Jubilee Park,” said boss David Johnstone. “I know Johnny is no stranger to Moneyslane FC and has very many close friends here. I’m very pleased with this addition and hope it will spur the team on for a strong finish to the season

“Johnny has proven himself at Championship level so to have him on board is fantastic. I have known Johnny for some years, he is a local lad so fits with our aim of attracting the best local talent to Jubilee Park

“Johnny is an extremely talented player. He can play either flank and even down the middle but he has a real eye for goal as well and Johnny will bring composure and quality to the team.

“All too often this season we have lacked a cutting edge, the final ball in the last third or a finish and I am very confident Johnny will improve those areas.”

Johnny’s dad John was, of course, the manager at Rathfriland before leaving the club in January.
