TOWN Juniors U16s faced league leaders Glentoran on Saturday morning and the Belfast side proved just to strong for the local lads.
The visitors started strong - putting the Banbridge midfield and defence under a lot of pressure and went one up after only two minutes.
Town settled down after this early setback and started playing some good football with attacking left back David Gray making some great runs and Josh Buchanan and Declan Loy holding their own in the middle of the park.
The Juniors were rewarded for this good spell when they scored after
28 minutes. Declan Loy played a terrific through ball to Josh Cargin on the right, and he took his opportunity well with a great shot from a tight angle to beat the keeper.
Banbridge were right back in the game but unfortunately were caught on the hop with a long through ball just before half time and the Glentoran striker made no mistake from close range.
In the second half Town had chances with both Finn Campbell and Josh Cargin unlucky not to score but Glentoran added a third after six minutes and scored number four just a few minutes later.
A superb save from goalkeeper William Maxwell denied the Glens a fifth, but they did complete the scoring in the dying minutes as the Banbridge heads down.
This was an impressive win by the visitors but the score did not accurately reflect the overall game as the local lads battled hard, playing some tidy football in patches.
