Girls' football is flourishing with over 50 at Gers

The success of girls' football in the Banbridge District over the last couple of months has been phenomenal with a number of teams now competing on behalf of Banbridge Rangers in the Mid Ulster GDC.

With over 50 girls attending regular sessions at Cheney Park there have been teams created at Under 8, Under 9, Under 10, Under 11, Under 12 and Under 13 level to cater for the Banbridge area.

On Friday evening the Under 12 girls played in two different sections of the Mid Ulster Girls only development centre with great success.

The team was mostly made up of Under 11 players so began the evening at that level and then switched to the Under 13 section for the second hour.

There were some superb goals scored with Rachel Hodgen scoring six goals on her debut and Robyn McKinstry getting four for the Banbridge Girls.

The Under 10s team have several girls playing in the boys leagues so when they tried their hand at the Under 11 Development section they excelled in both games and as a team will be a formidable outfit for years to come.

The Under 8s had several new players getting a taste of action on Saturday morning in Banbridge playing against two teams made up of boys at their own age.
