On Saturday October 25 Dromore travelled to play 1st Bangor in the Intermediate Cup and came away beaten 5 nil by a very good 1st Bangor team.
The game was played in horrendous windy conditions and the referee wasn’t much better.
With the wind behind them in the 1st half Dromore new that they had to make this count but it was 1st Bangor who settled down 1st and they started to control the game with Dromore unable to close down the play.
There was a few early chances for both teams with Thompson making some fine saves in the Dromore goal and S.Henderson going close for Dromore.
The deadlock was broken when from a Dromore corner 1st Bangor broke on the counter attack and the winger slotted past Thompson at the near post. This goal failed to liven up the Dromore players and 1st Bangor got their 2nd shortly after when the striker pasted a few players before beating the keeper.
Dromore where then forced into a change when G.Rowan landed badly and had to be stretchered off with McMurray replacing him. Dromore conceded a 3rd when 1st Bangor again broke after a Dromore corner and the striker left Thompson with no chance.
The 2nd half started much the same as the 1st but with Dromore playing against the wind it was always going to be a tough 45 minutes.
A 1st Bangor corner early in the half wasn’t cleared properly and with Dromore trying to play off-side on their own 18 yard line a through ball was slotted home by the Bangor player.
What followed was a total lack of concentration as from the resulting Dromore centre 1st Bangor retrieved the ball and scored again within 20 secs off the 4th.
With only pride to play for Dromore knuckled down and started to put themselves about. They put pressure on the 1st Bangor outfit and battled for everyball.
Dromore had a few half chances in the last 15 mins but they where unable to convert.
Afterwards the manager commented ‘ it was always going to be a tough match for us but we need to put the effort in from the 1st minute until the 90th. Hopefully we can start to get a few points onto the board after all these cup games.’
G.Rowan was up and walking after being stretchered off and will be sore for a few days.
This Saturday sees Dromore travel to Larne to play Newington Rangers in the league, this will be their seventh away league game out off eight.
