Five star Swifts see off Seagoe
BANBRIDGE Rangers Swifts kept the pressure on the teams at the top of the table by putting in a solid display away to Seagoe Reserves last Saturday.
Manager Robin Butler had a strong squad with him who started tentatively with Seagoe coming out off the blocks looking to avenge the 4-0 defeat to the Gers at Cheney Park earlier in the season.
After the initial period of defensive work the Swifts set about trying to penetrate Seagoe with Paul Frazer and John McCahon linking well with wide players Wilson and Copes.
On 20 minutest the deadlock was broken by Frazer who beat the offside trap and carried the ball into the box before side footing low into the corner.
Within five minutes the advantage was doubled with the mercurial John McCahon collecting a ball from Matthew McCrum behind the last defender and proceeded to walk the ball past the keeper committing him to the ground early with a drop of the shoulder and allowing for a tap in from a yard.
Rangers kept it tight until the half as they were up against a strong wind and an onset of rain and knew they would have a better advantage in the second half.
Brian Chievers and Davy Rogers dominated the midfield battle throughout the game and set up the third goal which was saw John McCahon score his second goal and in similar circumstances by rounding the keeper and tapping in from less than a yard.
The game as a contest was wrapped up on the hour mark when Paul Frazer stepped in off the left flank and drilled a low shot from twenty yards which beat the keeper at his near post.
After several changes Neil Wilson was given his chance up front again and provided a confident finish to make it 5-0 to the Swifts who saw out the remainder at a canter.
This Saturday the Reserves play on Friday night at Cheney Park against Lurgan Celtic and the Swifts host Lurgan Celtic at Cheney Park on Saturday with kick off at 3pm.
