Dromore Ladies under 18’s played an American College team from Washington, who were touring Ireland recently.
The sides played on August 10 at Lisnagarvey where thankfully the rain had stopped.
Dromore were over powered in the first 20 minutes with the visiting American team scoring three quick goals, the Washington team were older, over 18, which initially unsettled the Dromore side.
Dromore played some younger players, which was a great opportunity for them to step up and gain from the game experience as the club continues its development of younger players coming through .
After a coaching talk at the break, Dromore upped their game with shots on target but all were saved.
Again the American team scored against Dromore to extend their lead.
The third 20 minutes Nicola Clements; the Dromore under 18 coach; made some changes, moving the defensive players, who were older and more experienced players into mid field.
This changed Dromore’s game and they had several shots on target.
The local girls kept the pressure on Washington’s defence and eventually Sarah Wilson got a shot in.
This was a great experience for all the players and a good pre-season game giving both the coach and players plenty to work on before the season starts.
The Dromore team presented the Washington side with badges and the Dromore team received key rings with the Washington emblem on it, following the friendly match.
Many thanks to Nicola Clements for coaching and to Michelle Herron and Thomas Sturgeon for umpiring.
The club were delighted to see lots of parents and supporters cheering on the girls, keep up all the welcome support throughout the forthcoming season.
