Dromore glad to take a point following heavy loss

THERE was a heavy defeat for Dromore Senior team at home to Divis on Saturday last by 45 shots, leaving them glad to take a point.

Rink 1: W Clinghan, H Hylands, D McCandless, A Johnston.

Rink 2: K Aiken, D Shanks, R Greer, G Clinghan.

Rink 3: T Wilson, D Graham, SG Malcomson, J McKenny.

Rink 4: S Jess, B Paylor, D Burns, F Cranney.

In the first five ends Divis had taken a six shot lead. Johnston was a single up, Clinghan was three ahead, McKenny was six down and Cranney was four adrift.

Divis put on the pressure to lead by 20 at the halfway stage with Clinghan the only rink ahead by four. Johnston was down five, McKenny was a dozen behind with Cranney seven in the red.

The game was as good as over at three quarter mark with Divis leading by 29. Clinghan was still holding on to a two shot lead, meanwhile Johnston was four behind, McKenny was now 17 in the red and Cranney was 10 behind.

In the last six ends Divis gave a great display to leave the home team licking their wounds after a 45 shot defeat. Clinghan was the only Dromore winner by four, Johnston was hit for a 19 shot defeat McKenny and Cranney were both down by 15 shots at the finish.

Next Saturday the seniors will be away to Dundonald while the juniors will be at home to Londonderry Park - both are league games.

The Dromore Junior team played their first league match after the July break away to Divis and found the home team to hot to handle. They were glad to return home with two points, going down by 10 shots.

Rink 1: N Lindsay, T Ledlie, J Noddings, S Malcomson.

Rink 2: T Ogle, G McDowell, H Maxwell, T Sudlow.

Rink 3: G Beggs, T Hewitt, I Houston, T Sudlow.

Rink 4: A Clinghan, T Gribben, G Harvey, G Irvine.

The juniors did not get a good start and at the five end mark were only leading on one rink. Malcomson was a single to the good, T Sudlow was down four, A Sudlow was in the red by three with Ervine in arrears of seven to leave the home team ahead by 13.

In the next five ends the juniors had held their own but was still showing the home team ahead by thirteen. Malcomson was now five to the good, T Sudlow was in the red by seven, A Sudlow was now facing a heavy defeat at 13 down with Ervine turning the tables to lead by two.

It was a disaster for the juniors in the next quarter as Divis showed a lead of 23. Malcomson was still holding his five shot lead, T Sudlow was now 11 down, Alan Sudlow was still getting a roasting and was trailing by 16 while Ervine was a single behind.

The juniors made a come back in the last six ends to finish 10 down. Malcomson had a good win of nine, T Sudlow missed out by two shots, Alan Sudlow had a bad afternoon to finish down by 19 while Ervine was able to grind out a two shot victory.
