Banbridge District Council’s Chairman, Councillor Junior McCrum, has spoke of his delight at Rory Best’s selection to the British and Irish Lions touring squad.
The Banbridge and Ulster player was selected for their tour to Honk Kong and Australia, which got underway at the weekend.
“Rory Best’s selection for the British and Irish Lions touring party is richly deserved and a great honour,” he said.
“Rory is a credit to his family who have a long tradition of playing rugby and to his home club, Banbridge Rugby Club and Ulster Rugby.
“For a local player who came up through the ranks at Banbridge Rugby Club to be representing the British and Irish Lions on their landmark 125th anniversary tour is a wonderful achievement and one we should be rightly proud of!
“Rory has proved time and time again what a world class rugby player he is and I wish him and the British and Irish Lions every success in this sporting campaign.’
