Castle make it two in a row in the First Division

CASTLE Bar B 6-2 First & Last B - The Castle bar claimed back to back First Division championships with a well oiled display against The First & Last on Tuesday night.

It was never really a contest despite the nerves of the home team as P Teggart, R Fitzpatrick and E Maney all won their matches to give the home side a 3-0 lead.

P Lyness pulled a frame back for the visitors but that only put the champaign on hold as Colly McSherry restored the three frame advantage in the next and the all important winning frame went to F Larkin who clinched the title in the sixth frame.

So all that is left to say is congratulations to The Castle Bar who will enjoy a celebration match this week.

Cullen’s 6-2 Anglers Rest - Cullen’s secured second spot in the league with an impressive display against The Anglers.

The Tandragee side were sitting in wait to pounce if The Castle failed to overcome the First & Last in Gilford.

That was not to be and they secured the next best position which is well deserved this season.

Tom Bell got the night off to a good start for Cullen’s, C McAnearney levelled the match in the next.

The home side then rattled off three frames on the bounce through Alan Armstrong, Joe Cullen and Shea Turley.

M Doyle gave The Anglers a slim chance of picking up a point with victory in the sixth frame but that was quickly wiped out as Ronnie Weir won his frame and the match for the home side.

Richard Gibson finished off the scoring in the final frame.

O’Reilly’s 4-4 Mulholland’s - Mulholland’s knew to have any chance of catching Cullen’s for the runner up spot they would have to come away from Banbridge with both points and the Tandragee side would have to slip up at home to The Anglers.

Neither of these happened as they found themselves up against a determined O’Reilly’s side.

It all started off very well for Mulholland’s as B Hawthorne and S Wilson gave the visitors a 2-0 lead.

The match was quickly level after S Conlon and M Gartland pulled out two great wins.

M McCormack restored the lead for the visitors before R Curren once again brought us all square.

P Winters gave Mulholland’s the advantage going into the final frame which went the way of D McConville to leave it all square.
