Bann U8s maintain their high standard

Clann na Banna U8s maintained this season’s high standard of football at the second round of the Down GAA Blitz on Saturday 26th May in Mayobridge. The recent sunshine has provided excellent conditions for the players to show case their talents.

The Blitz provided new opposition for Clann na Banna to test themselves against.

The first match was against Rostrevor. Bann started quickly with a goal from Taylor Hill and dominated possession with Thomas Cunningham too strong around the middle of the field. Further scores form Donal Scullion and the impressive Aodhran Devlin put Clann na Banna well ahead.

Rostrevor struggled to contain the movement of Oliver Abdy and Caolan Hillen in the Bann forward line. With the opposition unable to get past the formidable Cian Gregg. Bann ran out comfortable winners.

Next up was a strong Mayobridge side.

This didn’t faze Clann na Banna as they continued where they left off in the first match. Assisted by the wind the first half saw Clann na Banna register some cracking scores from the seemingly unstoppable Donal Scullion and Taylor Hill.

They went into the second half expecting a much stronger test because of the unpredictable wind.

But the wind didn’t seem to be able to stop this Bann team with Liam Vaughan taking centre stage with some tigerish tackling allowing him to register some great scores.

Orlaith Smyth and Adam Maginn then showed some classy forward play and struck a point a piece. Mayobridge finally used the wind to their advantage to take some good scores. But the Bann lead was too great and they continued their winning run.

The final game saw Bann’s toughest test against Saval. It was a tail of two halves, with each team benefiting from the strong wind. Bann had the advantage in the first half but took a while to settle. Denis Kerr provided some inspiration with some strong running at the Saval defence. This allowed Bann to get a footing in the game with some great team scores.

They managed to keep Saval scoreless in the first half with some strong defending from Adam Maginn and Thomas Cunningham. Saval then took the wind advantage in the second half and Bann had to be a their best to contain them. Conor McKee then produced some fancy footwork to set up a Bann Score but Saval got back into the game with some great scores.

But the clock run out with Bann edging the game by a point.

So congratulations to the Clann na Banna U8 team who still remain unbeaten this season. Next up for the U8s and U10s is a challenge game on Thursday the 14th June against Annaclone in Cottage Park.
