Banbridge have three players currently in South Africa for an Olympic warm-up tournament.

Eugene Magee, Matthew Bell and Drew Carlisle are part of the 25 man Ireland squad who are set to face Spain, Canada and Belgium in tournament like conditions with potentially eight games in 11 days.

Banbridge Head Coach Mark Tumilty is hoping that missing out on the squad doesn’t mean Bruce McCandless will definitely not be going to Rio come the summer.

He said: “If Bruce can get back in and have an outstanding finish to the season, then there’s no reason why not. Craig Fulton has already said that other people are in because of good form. That goes for Jonny McKee and Owen Magee too.”
