Bann Ladies earn a share of the spoils away to North Down

North Down Ladies 1

Banbridge Ladies Firsts 1

Banbridge ladies Firsts travelled to Comber on Saturday to play North Down in the league.

Banbridge started the game well, controlling the majority of possession in the early stages, with multiple circle entries from well worked passing play. The forward line up of Anna Jess, Amy Atkinson and Rachel Cairns worked hard in the circle, but were left wanting as the North Down goal keeper made some excellent saves.

Banbridge continued to work the ball around the opposition well, with Debbie Smith, Sarah Quinn, Megan McKenna and Cathy Rees distributing the ball well and feeding the forward line. Although Bann created a lot of pressure they struggled to convert their efforts to goals and the defence found themselves under pressure at times in the first half.

The on form Bann keeper, Sarah McCabe, made sure to keep a clean sheet from any quick counter attacks from the home team. Jill Mehaffey, Sarah McCracken, Alex Gordon and Ashlea Bell calmly broke North Downs play down, feeding it back to the midfield and up the pitch.

With 10 minutes play left in the 1st half Anna Jess picked up a ball from Sarah Quinn and ran up the pitch feeding the ball inside to Cathy Ress who won a free outside the ‘D’. Rees quickly took the free, passing it to Amy Atkinson who, with great skills, fed the ball back post to Anna Jess who slotted it past the keeper. Score at half time was 1-0.

After the half time break North Down seemed to step up the pace putting more pressure on the Bann defence. North Down managed to find a Bann foot in the circle and win a short corner. A great strike on target meant there was nothing goalie Sarah McCabe could do. The score was now level. End to end play continued. Bann started to get frustrated which showed in their play. North down won consecutive shorts but Banbridge managed to keep them out of the net. Final whistle blew with the score at 1-1.

BHC would like to thank their coach Simon Jess.
