Banbridge Ladies Twos played against a very youthful Lisnagarvey Threes at Havelock and came out easy victors at 4-0.

It was a very warm afternoon which contributed to Banbridge’s slow start.

Banbridge eventually started to move the ball around, and played the ball easily down the right-hand-side of the pitch due to great teamwork between Charley Brush, Meghan Whan and Sarah Anderson. After a change of rolling subs Lauren McGaw took up right-wing.

Megan Whan fought through the Garvey defence and laid on a pass to Lauren McGaw. Lauren took the ball right to the baseline and pulled the ball across the goals, looking for a touch in, not thinking it would go in, but it did.

This gave Banbridge the boost they needed. There was great calling from keeper Eileen Mitchell, which helped to keep the defence alert.

The defence started to play the ball across the back between Charley Brush, Kate Cunningham, Gaye Campbell and Gina Woods. Play was switched effortlessly from side to side.

Alannah Magee kept Garvey’s defence busy by making space for our midfield attack. Gina Woods worked well with Anna Waugh and Poppy Robinson down the left-hand-side of the pitch.

Jess Hassan, who played solidly in midfield, hit a lovely through-ball which was played between Anna Waugh and Poppy Waugh, then finished off by Amy Gray.

Garvey had a few chances, but they were kept away from the goals by a solid defence.

Bann claimed their third of the game when Megan Whan made a lovely pass wide on the right to Sarah Anderson, who then aimed for the far post and this was touched-in by Amy Gray.

Garvey were awarded two penalty corners, but Eileen and the defence cleared the circle each time.

Banbridge pressurised Garvey again and were awarded a late penalty corner. Great awareness form Alannah Magee resulted in Bann capitalising from a weakness in the Garvey short corner defence.

Kate Cunningham at the stop of the circle slipped the ball left where Megan Whan was waiting to hit it into the back of the goal.

It was a great team effort. There was especially great commitment from Megan Whan on her last match for Banbridge before heading off to University.

The whole team wish her well. Banbridge LAdies 2s would also like to thank sponsors Gardencare.
