Banbridge secure first win of 2013

AFTER a long Christmas break away from matches Banbridge Firsts secured their first victory in 2013, in the netball Northern Ireland A2 League against Valley Firsts in Gilford Community Centre on Thursday January 24.

The game started at a very fast speed but Banbridge took the advantage of an early lead with a break in the Valley’s centre pass.

From the outset Valley appeared to struggle with Bann’s defence duo of GK Cathy Buchanan & GD Amanda Johnston challenging hard, resulting in super interceptions allowing Bann to convert and take the lead by five goals at the end of the first quarter.

With a confident start to the game, Banbridge maintained their strong attacking play and further extended their goal lead throughout the second quarter. Unforced errors made by Valley were acted on and the ball was delivered down into Bann’s shooting circle where it wasn’t wasted.

A half time change saw Lisa Trainor replace Joanne Kerr as WD and Joanne Kerr replace Lynn Donaldson as WA.

Valley started the third quarter determined to pull back the score difference and momentarily had a short spell of success, scoring third in a row. However Banbridge regained their form and pressurised hard throughout the court, forcing errors by the Valley attack.

C Emma Boyd fed the shooting circle effortlessly allowing Banbridge to maintain a strong goal difference with exceptional shooting by GS Paula McBride and GA Sarah Porter
