Banbridge Seconds cruise to Plate final

Banbridge Seconds have secured their place in the Plate final with a fantastic 40-24 victory over Donaghadee Seconds.

Having already been defeated twice by Donaghadee this season, Bann knew they had to up their game.

Bann started strong with both shooters on form. Junior player Courtney Heslip who normally plays in the U16 league took court as GA. It’s a big leap to play at senior level but Courtney settled quickly and helped stretch Bann’s lead at the end of the first quarter to three points.

In the second quarter, Bann’s WD Lisa Trainor, GD Rachel Ryan and GK Elaine Henry worked increasingly hard to force errors around Donaghadee’s shooting circle. With tension rising in Donagahdee’s attacking circle, Bann’s GK Elaine Henry took a tumble and was replaced by Lisa Trainor while Leanne Burns took court as WD. Bann worked hard to stretch their lead to 18-12 at half-time.

Super defence work of GK Lisa Trainor, who was playing out of position and GD Rachel Ryan forced the ball out on a number of occasions allowing Bann to reshape. Accurate shooting by GS Melanie Lloyd and GA Courtney Heslip ensured the hard work of the defence duo was not wasted.

The attacking duo of WA Claire McCullough & GA Courtney Heslip fed the circle and GS Mel Lloyd converted effortlessly in the final quarter. Bann increased their work rate with some brilliant interceptions throughout the court by C Kerrie Patterson.
