Ballyvarley U12s edge out Ballela

BALLYVARLEY U12 hurlers travelled to Ballela for a match which is always well fought on both sides.

Ballyvarley started off well, winning balls and gaining possession. However, they could not gain any momentum and gave away too many frees. Ballela were then able to control the game, dropping frees into the box or over the bar. The Ballyvarley team seemed to loose heart and their only consolation was to score a point.

First period score: Ballela 3-3, Ballyvarley 0-1.

In the second period Ballyvarley took off seven of their older players to give the substitutes a run out. They all fought hard in a very evenly matched game, gave away very few frees and managed to score a goal from Nathan Jones. Ballela replied with a well taken goal as well.

Second period score: Ballela 1-0, Ballyvarley 1-0.

After watching the younger players put up a good fight and realising that too many frees were being conceded Ballyvarley’s boys and girls took the game to Ballela.

They wanted to win and kept pressing the play further up the field. This last 20 minutes was the best they have played all season and resulted in goals from Connal McNally, Nathan Jones, Connor McPolin, Michael Jordan, Stephen McKey & Feildlim Macauley.

Most of the balls travelling back into Ballyvarley’s half were swept up by Danielle Stewart and Louis Murray. Ballela responded with a well taken point but were not able to get further scores.

Third period score: Ballela 0-2, Ballyvarley 6-0. Final score: Ballela 3-5, Ballyvarley 6-1 (14–19).

In the middle and end periods of the match every Ballyvarley team member worked very hard, they started playing as a team and showed great spirit.

Team: Michael Jordan, Connal McNally, Feidlim Macauley, Louis Murray, Connor McPolin, Stephen McKey, Eoin McConville, Ruari Stewart, Danielle Stewart, Nathan Jones, Callum McConville, Paddy McGrath, Finbar Malumphey, Michael McKey, James Teague, Darragh Byrne, Rory Conway, James Canniford.
